Yuri Vernydub: “The most important thing is that we started the season with a win”

Neftçi PFK head coach Yuri Vernydub answered journalists’ questions at the post-match press conference following our Misli Premier League Round 1 fixture against Sumgayit:

“We played our first match away from home. I think the game went well for us. We scored three goals, but we could have scored more; we simply did not take some of our chances. At the same time, we should not have conceded a goal like that. Nevertheless, I am pleased with the performance, the players and the result. The most important thing is that we started the season with a win. There are many aspects we need to work on, and we will do so. As for our new signings, they need a little more time to fully adapt. We still need to strengthen the squad, but we are looking for players who fit our team, and that is a very demanding process. We have a good number of Azerbaijani players in our team. This is particularly important for the development of the national team. As a team, we are working together to achieve good results in the end, and to be able to enjoy those results.”
