Yuri Vernidub: “Even After Going Down to Ten Men, We Wanted to Win”

Neftçi PFK head coach Yuri Vernidub answered journalists’ questions at the press conference following the team’s Round 9 Misli Premier League match against Turan Tovuz.

“The first 20 minutes did not go as we had wanted. Then, due to a mistake by our defender, we were reduced to ten men. Despite this, we started playing better. We even scored and went into half-time with the lead.

However, I knew it would be difficult to play with ten men against a team like this. For that reason, we continued with a 5-3-1 formation. In fact, until we conceded, we had covered all the spaces and the opposition had not created any clear-cut chances. Later, Emil Balayev saved our team from conceding another goal.

Even after going down to ten men, we wanted to win. I believe we dropped two points because I always want to win. We will work more on our defensive play.”
