Yuri Vernidub: “I Told the Players That We Must Not Drop Points Here”

Neftçi PFK head coach Yuri Vernidub answered journalists’ questions at the press conference held after the team’s Round 10 Misli Premier League match against Şamaxı:

“I think it was a good game. We knew that Şamaxı were by no means an easy opponent and that we would have to work hard to earn all three points. In the opening minutes, the hosts launched some dangerous attacks. Nevertheless, we regrouped quickly and scored from a set-piece situation. As we went into half-time level, I told the players that we needed to increase the pressure even further in the second half. I had told them that we must not drop points here, and they did a fine job of carrying out their instructions.

“Overall, I liked our performance in the second half. Moreover, the players who came on as substitutes also made a positive impression. The most important thing is that we won. We keep moving forward. I would like to thank our fans very much. They gave us fantastic support, and I bow before them for that.”
